week 19

Hello family and friends,

We got a car in Lawrence!!! I never thought I’d see the day, but they received additional cars from headquarters and we got one. Well, Lawrence 1 got one. Elder Morales can’t drive because he doesn’t have a driver’s license (technically he doesn’t have papers), and I can’t drive because I had a speeding ticket and was caught talking on my cell phone. But I finished a defensive driver’s course, so I should be able to drive later on this week.

The snow has come! It’s snowed twice so far. The streets are clean right now, but the night of the storm we got to watch people try to drive up our street and then fail and slide down (one crashed). I hear it’s all going to melt soon, but we can’t check the weather ourselves. I’m getting transferred I think, I’ll find out on a Saturday night (not this one, but next one) so I’ll know the Monday before I transfer, so for now, send mail to the mission office until I can get my new address.

We went to a funeral yesterday. It was pretty different than other funerals I’ve been to. There was lots of shouting and wailing. The man was an investigator of ours, we’ll still visit his family, but he knew it was coming up. He was only in his 40’s but had bad cancer. We sang to him the first time we met him and sang again at the funeral. It sounded pretty bad. I’m the only missionary that can actually sing, then there’s one that can kind of sing, 2 that sound really bad, and a member who sang as well as Odin. But it was great that everyone got to participate.

That’s all for now!

With Love,

-Elder Matthew D. Evans
